Free Seed + Plant Swap

I’ve been wanting to organize a plant swap for a few years now. When we bought this property in 2018, it was a beautiful albeit BLANK slate. I left a huge and high-maintenance terraced garden with countless flowers, herbs, bulbs, shrubs and trees that I grew in Irwin. Endless weed-whacking and by the time I finished mowing the front yard, it was time to mow the back yard. On and on! I did not miss the constant and unfruitful maintenance, but I knew that I wanted to cultivate garden areas with flowering trees, shrubs and native plants into our woodland landscape.

The only thing I found worth trading on our property was forsythia. If anyone has seen The Office “Garage Sale” episode where Dwight works on trading a thumbtack to barter his way up to the most valuable item…that’s what it felt like for me!

We were so focused on renovating and making the house livable, we just did not have a budget for flowers for the first few years. So I made tons of forsythia cuttings to root and traded around for whatever anyone was willing to share. It helped, but it was a lot of effort and hoofing on my end. (Plus not everybody really wants forsythia, haha!) I only wish I had access to a plant swap to attend. It would have saved me lots of awkward Craigslist interactions.

I do hope to make this an annual event, as I feel like it would be such an amazing start for first-time-gardeners, or people like me who relocated, or simply just for sharing and meeting other like-minded friends. I’m wide open for any suggestions you may have or things you’d like to see as part of the raffle!
